Koo Self Defense: Cartersville Studio - Breaking Plastic Rebreakable Boards

Why break boards? It is a measure of how much power that the body can deliver and that takes a lot of practice with proper conditioning exercises. If one can generate so much power on an inanimate object, then a human body is much more fragile and the damage would be more intense.

The greatest myth in all other martial arts is the belief that it will take a student years to develop power and trained for a lifetime in search of the perfect techniques. Koo Self Defense explodes that myth in 1992 by producing very low ranking students such a white or even yellow belts and irrespective of size or age the ability to break a lot of boards in a matter of weeks from commencement of training. All other martial arts train for a certain look for a particular technique whereas in Koo Self Defense there is no emphasis for that certain look. The fact is it does not matter how the techniques look especially on the streets. Do street punks have the perfect technique?

From the initial birth of Koo Self Defense in 1992, all of the POWER drills performed onto focus mitts and shields were designed to developed AWESOME POWER. The first few years of Koo Self Defense for every month an entire week were devoted to STAMINA DRILLS. Stamina drill involves punching focus mitts at least 600 hits non stop or 200 kicks non stop in sets of 100 as well as many other stamina drills.

All of the students regardless of age, size or physical abilities were able to develop very powerful punches, strikes and kicks. Below are some photos (notice the old karate uniform as this was the beginning of Koo Self Defense) demonstrating the power of Koo Self Defense especially for very low ranking students, white belts, yellow belts etc.

The board breaking were performed onto plastic re-breakable boards which is consistent and take about 70lbs. of pressure each (new board) to break. When boards are added together, the amount of pressure to break 5 or 6 six are compounded.

Most other martial arts styles or systems use wooden boards for breaking requirements either for demonstrations and/or testing. Wooden boards are easier to break as you can hit anywhere on the piece for it to break and there is no consistency. The plastic re-breakable boards are much tougher to break as it not only require greater force but absolute accuracy. It is like going onto a shooting range and fire a gun at a target. To break a plastic re-breakable board, one must hit the bull eye and not just the target!

Koo Self Defense will be changing the plastic rebreakable boards for Black Belt Testing in 2004 (as the previous ones used has ceased to be manufactured) as soon as the old supplies expires. These new plastic rebreakable boards from UMAB has proven to be tougher and much better. Koo Self Defense has the most OBJECTIVE BLACK BELT TEST in the world! CLICK HERE to read more!
